Declare it Fearlessly

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20

I find it interesting that some of the disciples doubted Jesus. They had been with Him in person, so they witnessed His miracles and heard His teachings. They saw his death and burial, but some of them had doubts about His resurrection. It may seem odd, but it's comforting to know that they did. It shows us the disciples weren’t special; they were just ordinary human beings like us. But in the verses above, Jesus gave them a very big command.

Jesus commanded them to make more disciples, and to baptize and instruct them. Being God, Jesus knew they were afraid and uncertain. To give them courage, He told them this: "I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

Have you ever been prompted by the Holy Spirit to share your faith with someone, but you felt frozen by your fears and doubts? I've had moments like this, but I also knew that Jesus was with me. Christ follower, with God on our side there is nothing to fear! Jesus will help us speak His truth boldly, even when it seems hard (or impossible).

Recently, I have been praying for our missionaries and world missions. Being a missionary is a bold step of faith! I pray that God would give them peace and keep them safe as they speak truth in areas that may be hostile to Christians. When I pray these prayers, I understand our nation isn't as dangerous, but we do share one similarity. Satan wants to stifle God's truth overseas, in our nation, and in our neighborhoods.

...pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. Ephesians 6:19 (NLT)

Jesus didn't tell us to just make disciples during the holidays; He commanded us to do it all year long! Be sure to speak God's truth lovingly, but don't be afraid to boldly proclaim the gospel. Remember, Jesus said He will be with us when we speak!
